Built this one in May 2008: Case: Antec 900 (with extra optional fans) - $191 Mobo: XFX nVidia n790i Ultra 1333MHz FSB - $559 CPU: Intel Q9550 2.83GHz 1333MHz FSB - $679 RAM: OCZ Reaper 4GB DDR3 1333MHz FSB - $335 GPU: XFX nVidia 9800 GX2 - $829 PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 1200w - $425 DVD-RW: Asus /w Lightscribe - $40 HDD: 3x WD 2TB Black series + 1x WD 2TB Green (added over time) Total: $3,008 Monitor: BenQ E2420HD with 2x HDMI, 1x DVI, 1x VGA Speakers: Logitech Z5500D 5.1 surround. In May 2010 upgraded to an eVGA nVidia 480GTX ($830) since the GX2 died and generally wasn't that great. Has always been very quick but quite noisy with all those fans. I'm now looking to build something much quicker but also a lot quieter. In the meantime I've purchased a near-silent HTPC for all non-gaming tasks (such as typing this up) since leaving the gaming PC on all day would leave the ears ringing. Had a bit of a look around (haven't checked other nearby stores to find the lowest price yet) and am thinking building something like this: Case: CoolerMaster Silencio 650 - $157 Mobo: Asus P8Z77-V-Deluxe - $308 CPU: Intel i7 3770K 3.5 - 3.9GHz - $338 RAM: Gskill RipjawsZ F3-17000 16GB 2133MHz FSB - $159 GPU: eVGA nVidia GTX 680 4GB 1019MHz O/C edition - $779 PSU: Keep existing? - $0 Optical: Keep Existing? - $0 (or Bluray burner for $89) HDD: Keep Existing? =$0 (8TB should be enough, might get another SSD though when prices drop more) CPU Cooler: Haven't looked yet, mustn't block RAM (high profile) and mustn't be noisy Total so far: $1,879

Sport the turboduck A number of us here on turboduck backed the crowd-funded Slighty Mad Studios project that ended up as Project CARS, and one of those 'us' in particular was Ryzza. With more money than sense he became a Manager and this entitled him to have his own advertising board (it's on Brands Hatch) and car livery in the finished game. And incredibly he gave this honour to us! Back in 2014 in a select area of our community there were talks and discussions going on where the conceptualising of a vision was taking place, and the one bringing the suggestions and imaginings of those talks to digital life was Milli - a graphics/product designer who naturally took to the task like a turboduck takes to goat washing. (that means really well) The initial decision was for the type of car to have the livery shown on and there were many opinions voiced, starting off with a BMW Z4 that was quickly dismissed due to already being used by some, then it was a flurry of proposals for those not even in the game and then somehow Ry started playing with a RUF. And despite some initial reservations and the solo mentioning of using a 'beetle' this was the car we started to take seriously for the task. Within a short time concepts started to show, as Milli using her talent would take what we were picturing and describing to greater heights, continuing to impress us with every update she dropped. As the game's development progressed, more and more vehicles became available to use for 'painting' and with it being Ry's perk, the ultimate final decision on which car we go with would be down to him entirely. Through the gentle persuasion of others, the choosing to swap to an Aston Martin was made, and from then it was all about that car. This was fine and again Milli did her magic, making the livery fit onto the Aston and it was looking good. Unfortunately right at the death of submission, a slight issue reared its head, only found when one of the latest builds was downloaded and it was discovered that, shall we say the proper livery we all had come up with was... tweaked. And that was it, it was done for all we knew. Jump forward to this month with the US Racecar Pack and the update alongside it becoming available and the original vision is properly out there for all platforms and players to raise their eyebrows at. Realise our delight as we picture the confused expressions forming on faces as they ponder what the hell is 'goat washing since 2007' and who on earth are the Squirrel Mafia and why do they appear to own a security firm. What once we thought had been lost has arisen and come back! Thank-you Ryzza, Milli and SMS for allowing this to happen!! Accompanying the turboduck RUF is also a BAC Mono in our SEVEN colours. SEVEN is the name of our current style you can see on our site and forum with the red, white and blue colour scheme. The turboduck imagery doesn't end there either: we also have a very small logo on the #98 Ginetta G55 GT4, put there by our very own superhyper who designed that one. And lastly as mentioned very briefly above, we also have our mascot and name emblazoned on an advertising boarding on the Brands Hatch circuit. Why not see if you can find it? It was fun to watch, but is it fun to drive? Clarkson told us he would organise the car battle of the decade. Clarkson teased us about this epic track battle. And well, Chris Harris delivered. I guess it helps when you don't have to put an entire season together that is bound to be heavily scrutinised upon release. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've already heard about Chris Harris' latest upload. And, unless you've been busy polishing said rock, no doubt you've already seen it. As I am now rocking (sorry) a new headset, I thought I had better bring my Fanatec CSR Elite out of early retirement and answer the age-old question: can men talk and drive at the same time? Oh, and is the P1 really that fun and easy to drive? I also share a few thoughts on the film as I complete two laps of the 'ring. Want to see the film and discuss it with like-minded petrolheads? We have a forum for that.
