    Default New User Registration Changes

In light of the recent PM spammers, spambots and the annoying idiots and companies who think that kind of stuff actually works we have made a small change to new user registrations and the ability to use the Private Message system.

This change is that new users must now have 15 posts (subject to change) or more before they will be able to use the PM system.

Should this continue to happen then other measures will be sought and taken if need be.

Note: Depending on when you hit 15 posts you may have to wait between 1-25mins for your status to be recognised.

Thats a good idea as Shar's had some spam PM's. I can't see anyone having a problem with it as most websites have similar systems.

Clever method, I hope spambots can't post 15 posts. I got one just yesterday that said "HEY GO TO THIS WEBSITE" and it was a porn site.

Yep that's the one who has been banned and is all in red, they have also been IP range banned so hopefully no more from them but I doubt it. I have some other ideas up my sleeve should they continue to try and annoy us.

I guess users just alert the admin as to when they receive this kind of PM? Is there a report PM button? :s

we got a similar system on computerforum but a member has to reach 100 posts before he/she/it can PM.

Nice Diablo. Sadly most new forum users will never bother to check this part of the forum & imediatly start posting. I know i did lol

That is very weird indeed. I can see that SLRR is not in the Usergroup that you are promoted to on reaching 15 posts. I have tested this out with bob the test account I always have on all forums I work on and he is should be banned restricted from PM'ing and gets an error should he try to do so.

SLRR can you send me a Private Message, I want to check something. Nothing detailed just a simple message, thanks!
