LOL, i remember back in the day I frequented the awewome (and sadly now deceased) BMXhead, i made a thread with one word per post just to get my count up. Over 100 consequetive posts and it finally got locked.
Now though, post counts don't botehr me. The last site I modded at we removed the post counter, because too many newbies were obsessed with 'ranking up'.

Being A mod/Admin on a few Forums, Ive only found that a 5-10% of members ever go on about their post count Tim, Its the same people that have the less quality posts also

im not really bothered about my post count, i wouldn't be bothered if it was reset. It just shows how much crap you can post in a short space of time

Thats a rather specific percentage. But on a site with over 50,000 memebers that 5-10% (you worked out) makes alot of work for mods to clean up.
